Our April (late) book challenge

Thank you AJ for giving us a virtual kick up the derriere and reminding us that we haven't yet posted our April literary inspired challenge. Sorry about that, all the Easter chocolate went to our furry little brains!

Anyway, we promised a cubhood favourite didn't we? Well a book we still love and read to this day is Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott. We're sure you're all familiar with the story of the March family, the book charts the experiences and adventures of sisters Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth as they grow up in America during the civil war.

The sisters have very different personalities, and any girl reading it would have empathised with one of the characters, we always wanted to be Jo, she was so headstrong and sure of herself, and of course she was an aspiring literary talent, which we were most admiring of.

So, what could we do to turn this book into an art challenge? Well, lots actually, but we have decided to go with something a little more definitive than usual in the form of quotes. Little Women has some really great ones, but we've chosen ten for you to choose from:

“I like good strong words that mean something…”

“I wish I had no heart, it aches so…”

"I am angry nearly every day of my life."

“Don't try to make me grow up before my time…”

“life and love are very precious when both are in full bloom.”

“I like adventures, and I’m going to find some.”

“I am lonely, sometimes, but I dare say it's good for me…”

“Dear me! how happy and good we'd be, if we had no worries!”

“I hate ordinary people!”

“I'd rather take coffee than compliments just now.”

Take one of the above quotes as your starting points, and as per usual, make ANY form of art from it, a tag, ATC, journal page, digi project, card....... anything, as long as it includes the quote, or part of the quote, if that suits your project better. It'll be really interesting to see different interpretations if people use the same quote, or just your personal interpretation of a particular quote.

Although the quotes are all taken from Little Women, your project does NOT have to be about the book, the idea is to use books as our inspiration in some way. Also, you don't have to have read any of the books to join in, as demonstrated by our fab friends who joined in last month's challenge.
As we have started this challenge late and April is a short month anyway, plus those with children will be juggling holidays, we will carry this over to May, so you will have until 31st May to play along.

As usual, this is a just for fun challenge, as we often have family and close friends join in, and we wouldn't want to be accused of nepotism, nor to feel guilty for not picking them as favourites.

Please do visit each other's blogs, as that's the best bit about joining challenges in our opinion.

Oh, the rules? Just one, have fun.

Oh, and could you leave a comment after you link so we get a notification to come and join you. We do check back but if you comment we'll get an email. ;)

With love from the bears.

  1. Thanks for the comment left on my card. I had already made the card and added the quote when I saw it on here - thought it fitted so well - thanks for a lovely challenge. I loved reading Little Women when I was younger (might even be prompted to read it again) xx

  2. LOVE the quotes... thank you so much for offering them up. Have to say I have mixed feelings about Little Women (I remember preferring the sequel, Good Wives, for reasons lost in the mists of time since I read either of them), but those quotes certainly get the crafty antennae quivering.... and there's really no excuse if we've got til the end of May!! Great challenge again, bears...
