Now, what's on the bears' workspace this week? Some smudgy artwork for the challenge over at Smudgy Antics challenge blog.
This week's theme is Sugar and Spice, but knowing how Smudgy Antics is all about thinking outside the box and being edgy, I thought I'd subvert the theme, and came up with this
The sentiment reads
'Sugar and spice may be very nice. But I do like a good drop of BLOOD'.
The idea being that a vampire bat stumbled upon the Smudgy Antics challenge, and decided to add his thoughts. The bat is atop a heart, which has a whole through its middle, with blood having spurted out in all directions when the bat punctured it with his fiendish teeth.
I started with a blank tag, always a good place to start! I sprayed this lightly with Dylusions Post Box Red mist, I also sprayed the printed sentiment with the same mist.
I stood both tag and sentiment against my pizza spray booth lid, and sprayed again, this time with water, to produce a dripped blood effect.
When the tag was dry (thank goodness for our investment in a heat gun) I inked up an Andy Skinner background stamp, and stamped this randomly over the tag with Black Soot distress ink.
I did this without the aid of an acrylic block, to produce a less uniform finish.
I misted a Sizzix heart tag, and then stabbed right through the middle of it, Dracula beware!
I adhered the poor, stabbed heart to my tag, and spritzed the middle of it with more 'blood'. Ooh, a vampirish feeling has come over me all of a sudden.
My sentiment needed to look a little less pretty, and a lot more scaryfying, so I distressed the edges. I had to do this over the bin, as Wilbear gets rather irate with all the crafting mess we make.
Finally, I stuck everything down, I decided the bat needed to pop out from the tag, so used some 3d tape to adhere him just above the heart.
I felt the need to pose a little with my newly made tag. You really don't get to see enough of my furry little face on this blog!
I hope this tag fits with the Smudgy Antics blog remit. I had fun making it anyhow.
Must go, the other bears are clamouring for a look at this week's craft desks, they say I've been holding them up with my craft waffle!
With love from the bears.
Great Tag, loving the bears! Thank you for vivisting mine :)

ReplyDeleteThe Bears have created a wonderful tag, gosh they are clever. I hope their paws didn't get inky, it would be difficult to get the ink off them. LOL
ReplyDeletehappy crafting bears....
Hugs from Eliza #93
Our paws usually remain ink free, but sometimes we do get a little mist on our fur. The perils of crafting!
ReplyDeleteLOL. I am sure this frightened the bears terrible!!

Oh Horace, that’s a bit of a gruesome tag you’ve made this week, with the vampire bat and the blood oozing down it but even so, you’ve done a great job and it’s a real twist on the challenge. Definitely way out of the box!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by this week and good luck with the candy draw…………whatever it turns out to be!
Happy Crafting!

Gosh! Horace I'm shocked! I didn't think you'd do something so 'bloody' - hahaha though, it is very good, love the saying on it. x

Oh Wow I love Bears and your blog is fabulous. I collect bears and they are in most rooms in the house. The tag is fabulous and what a good idea to use a pizza box lid. I always make such a terrible mess when using spray inks.

Teddies with biker jackets are suppose to have a dark side and this tag sure fits the bill. I love that you added extra "blood" after you stabbed the heart. Awesome! Dani#16
ReplyDeleteI definitely have to try that technique of first spraying the color and then spraying water to make it drip--especially for bloody H'ween cards! Too cool! I also like the heart stabbed in the middle. So many possibilities with that! You can always learn something from bears.
ReplyDeleteYikes! What a perfect tag for Halloween (which will be here before we know it). Teddy did a great job, especially with the dripping blood effect!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me already. I'm slowly getting around this week.
Hugs, Kay #31
How fun that you have bears who stamp! Love the tag and all the bloody dripiness of it :)
ReplyDeleteHey Horace - good to see you again. LUV your Pizza Box spray room - fabbo.
ReplyDeleteYour tag is AWESOME.
Thank you for playing along at Smudgy Antics :-D xxx
Ooh that is very outside the box, I think it suits the criteria very well, aside from being a great tag! Lots of technique...must be a bit of a 'mare cleaning the old paws, what?!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous tag! love all the drippyness of it. Thank you for sharing at Smudgy Antics this week
ReplyDeleteGreat tag! love the bloody red background. Thanks for sharing with us at Smudgy Antics this week :)
ReplyDeleteI am totally behind on commenting this week, but I had to stop here first and let you know I adore your project! The colors and grungy effects are fabulous and your sentiment rocks! I must say, having that adorable Teddy making such a macabre piece just cracked me up! I did notice he was decked-out in his leathers so I know there is a rough and tough side there :) Thank you so much for playing with Smudgy Antics this week :)
ReplyDeleteYes, the tag fits very well! Well done and hope to see you again at Smudgy Antics. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLookin good :) Love having a peek into the spaces of fellow crafter's! If you happen to peek in on my blog, be sure to wear a hard hat! LOL!
