Horace Dreams with the Dragons

Hello there, it's the furry faced crafter here with you once again to show you the tag I made for this fortnight's challenge at the dragon's dream blog . The theme this time was In a heartbeat, and the recipe was a beating heart, a weathered timepiece, and a bit of grunge. Oh my, right up my furry little street!

Being a BIG fan of Edgar Allan Poe, my thoughts immediately turned to his well known short story, The Telltale heart. This is what I produced.

My weathered timepiece was quite a serendipitous find, it's a stamped image with the time at 10 minutes to midnight, and as Poe's tale centres around the midnight hour, I thought this was the perfect image for the challenge. My heart stamp was a little too cute for this project, so I inked it up in walnut stain distress ink

Inked over the stamped image again in Barn door distress ink, and roughly cut the heart, the slightly odd shape of it is supposed to depict the fact that it's still beating, just as the protagonist in the story believes it to be once he has murdered the old man.

I needed a sentiment for my tag, and what better than the confession that comes right at the end of the book 'it is the beating of his hideous heart'. Words that the protagonist utters to the police when he believes that they too can hear the heartbeat of the dead man from under the floorboards where he has been hidden.

After inking the sentiment, I used my natty little distress tool

And screwed up the words, for a more weathered look.

I wanted everything to look almost ruined, as the protagonist had ruined both the old man's, and his own life.

I do love the Dragon's fab challenges, and wish to congratulate my good friend Cath for her win with their last challenge. Check out her fab entry Here.

With love from the bears.

  1. Fabulous literary interpretation of the recipe - scrumptious coggy heart and the timepiece is great! You are certainly very well read bears... I guess that comes from having Pooh in your midst!
