WOYWW - Snow Much Mess

Hello there, Podgy here today, fresh from my chef duties

to share our workspace with all the noseylovely crafty peeps in Blog land. Why am I sharing pictures of my workspace? Press your furry paw here to see the addictive blog posted by Julia, be warned though, once you WOYWW you can't stop. Believe us, we tried to miss a week once, and got severe withdrawal symptoms!

So, on with my workspace.... It's snowing outside, so I decided the bears needed a journal page to remember the occasion. We have our Pink Pig 8x8 journal open, with a suitably snowy scene. I made the snowmen by cutting circles with our Spellbinders circle die, then embossing them. I may add noses and hats and other snowman accoutrements at some stage. Why am I on the desk too? Well, where else would I craft? Don't you do the same?

Also on the desk is this glue, named after me, wow, real fame. Shame they spelt my name wrong but I can always cross out the e and add a y.

A close up of some mess on the desk, I cut some letters for my journal page, and some for a friend, and the discarded card soon mounted up.

These inks are also on the desk, why? Because the bears just bought them, but we are not sure if we bought the correct sort of ink, we wanted archival, to stamp over mists and paints etc. Wilbear decided Memento meant the same as Archival, but we think he may be wrong, does anyone know which inks are best for journal pages? Our distress inks just seem to fade into the page if stamped on top of any inked or misted backgrounds.

Here's my page so far. I need to wait for the glues to dry, then I may get busy with the stickles.

Time to go and have a nosey around blog land, we do love Wednesdays, don't you?

With love from the bears.

  1. Hi! Both Memento and Archival are dye inks, but as I understand it Memento is a water-based dye ink so it's good if you want to colour with markers, but it won't hold its own against watercolouring or spraying or blending so well. I swear by the Ranger Archival inks, or Staz-On (though I only have that in black). I don't have any Memento though, so I'm sure you'll hear more from someone who can speak from experience!

As for sitting on the desk, no... but I and my projects can frequently all be found working on the floor! Happy WOYWW!
    Alison x

  2. That's a very snowy scene - something I fear we'll all have soon! I bet yours is much more fun than getting to work and back in the real thing. I look forward to seeing the snowman noses.

  3. Hi there bears. As Alison mentioned Memento inks are dyes not archival. However, for me they don't seem to fade so much with water (probably because the drying time is far shorter than with Distress Inks. You could also have a bash at the Versamagic/VersaColor ones which are pigment inks that sit nicely ontop of just about anything. Oh choices, choices. It's just the bank balance that suffers;) Happy WOYWW, hugs Jenny #29

  4. Good Morning Podgy- I must say you do look handsome in your chefs attire. And very brave to have inks around you when wearing white! Have a great week, Hugs Shaz xx#65

  7. I've no idea which is best ink, but I love your pages. I also love mod podgy. Happy WOYWW. Hugs lin

  9. Great journal page!

  10. Hallo Podgy, good to read your blog. Not sure what ink pads you need but you could always try heat embossing with the distress inks. If you have the powder ready to cover the in immediately, it does work. The distress inks stay wet for longer that the Adirondack type. Thank you for your visit today. Have a good week with the other bears. xx Maggie #37

  11. Hello bears, you've been busy creating those lovely journal pages, i feel cold just looking at them, or is that just the current weather conditions! Can't really help with the inks i usually use Archival for stamping and distress for a softer blendable finish. My friend use memento with her pro markers and I spy a fab collection of copics there so I'm sure those inks will come in very handy.x

  12. A bear after my own heart........I love a bit a of Stickles too the more glitter the better.

    thanks for sharing Sue #77

  13. Hello busy bears I use stay on mabe if u just buy it in black that should be enough

  15. HI podgy and love to all the bears loving the journal page cant help with the ink problem as I dont know enough yet.I hope you all have a fab week and dont get to cold in the snow Andrea #22

  16. Hi Bears - thanks for coming to see me earlier !
Momento are nice inks for colour & on card but may not work over paint or on fabric - that's what Archival is good for. Other inks tend to be patchy or bring the paint off.
Staz-On is great when you need to stamp onto glossy surfaces such as metal or glass or glossy paper & when you want to watercolour or blend with something water based - but don't use Staz-on with Pro-markers or Copics as they are both alcohol based & the Staz-on will smudge.
Distress are more for colour blending & backgrounds - but would emboss as they are slow drying.
Not great for stamping if you want a clear clean cut image but work for a muted ghosting effect.
I also use Versafine for detailed stamps - after it has dried it also won't smudge if you then watercolour or add water based techniques over it and you CAN use pro-markers etc. I have a 2 slide PowerPoint "inky Facts" sheet I did for the girls at my Scrapclub a while back - let me know if you'd like me to email it to you ? Don't know if that helps !! Ali x #8

  17. Hi Bears, I think others have sorted the inks questions. Anything water based will fade or smudge with mists etc. Archival are usually oil based and Staz-on solvent based are permanent so won't smudge/fade. I also have Brilliance Archival, not sure of the base these though. The Chronology range is excellent isn't it? Thanks for visiting me BJ#55

  18. I think you probably got all the answers you need from previous posts so won't add my penny worth and just say how handsome you look in your chef jacket!! The snow scene looks lovely, hope we see the finished pages! Annette #3

  19. I think you bears had the right idea of not going out in the snow 'cos snow in your fur is not nice at all is it?! I think Ali H has given you the best information and very helpful it is too.
Keep warm with lots of cocoa and marshmallows!

  20. Sorry, cannot help you with the inks, as I use Stazon. I wish we would get some snow! ♥ waving hi from the soggy laden hills of North Carolina ☺

  21. Your journal pages are looking very sweet with their winter theme. Looks like you have lots of information on the inks. I use Archival and it seems to do the trick for most of what i need. The memento colours you have chosen are gorgeous.
    Sandra @16

  22. Great journal pages. So fun!!
Sorry I am a day late. Fighting the nasty flu.
